Nojimasaki Lighthouse, sometimes also called Swan Lighthouse, is the second oldest lighthouse in Japan. Its location on the southernmost point of Chiba Prefecture's Boso Peninsula makes it a popular spot for watching the sunset. The lighthouse was designed in 1869 by the French engineer Leonce Verny as one of the first eight western style lighthouses to be built in Japan. Climb to the top for a superb panoramic view. The very tip of the peninsula in front of the lighthouse is a good place to visit at sunset.

This museum opened in 1973 after the building was renovated. You can see items that fishermen used for their daily life and work. Crafts and artwork related to the sea are displayed. You can get an insight into the culture of those whose lives are tightly connected to the ocean. There are more than 600 items related to ships dating from the Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). Works exhibited throughout the year include scrolls from Wakayama Prefecture that show whaling scenes and the castaway story of Kodayu Daikokuya.

There are many onsen ryokan located in Shirahama, which are Japanese inns with hot spring baths. Bathe in an onsen and relax.

Awa-no-kuni was an old province of Japan at the southernmost part of the Boso Peninsula. This old shrine was the Ichinomiya of Awa-no-kuni, the shrine with the highest rank in the province. Ame-no-Futotama no Mikoto, the ancestor of the Imbe clan, is enshrined here. Many old trees grow on the shrine’s vast grounds, giving it a solemn atmosphere. Along the road approaching the shrine are about 200 sakura cherry trees. This road and the area behind the Main Hall are famous cherry blossom spots.

The Tateyama Castle Ruins mark where the rulers of this region lived during the Sengoku Period (1467-1568). On top of the hill inside Shiroyama (Castle) Park is the Hakkenden Museum built in the shape of the castle donjon. Many of the items on display here are related to the historic Japanese novel “Nanso Satomi Hakkenden”. You can also learn about the history of the Boso Peninsula and the surrounding seas. Exhibits explain the development of Awa-no-kuni, the old province that was the southernmost point of Boso Peninsula until the early Edo Period (beginning of the 17th century).

Osakana Kurabu is located near the fishing harbour of Tadara in Tomiura-cho. The food here is prepared using fresh fish straight from the sea and you can eat sashimi, stir-fried, and boiled dishes. All menu items are based on the fishermen's knowledge of how to bring out the best taste of the ingredients.

Biwa Club is a Michi-no-eki roadside station in Minamiboso Tomiura-cho. It won a prize as the best of such stations in Japan. Inside the unusually shaped building is a service corner, a restaurant, and a souvenir shop. Biwa soft-serve ice cream is popular here. When the fruit is in season you can pick fresh biwa and strawberries in the garden. From mid-February to mid-March you can also see yellow nanohana (rapeseed) flowers outside.

Many people come here to take pictures of Tokyo Bay.
